Rains hit Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah and Umm Al Qaiwain
(28 February 2010)

Heavy rains accompanied by gale wind, lightning and thunderstorms lashed out swaths of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, Sharjah and Umm Al Qaiwain, according to the Met Office.

The National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said torrential rains fell on the Khalifa cities (A) and (B), Mussafah, Samha and Rahba.

The NCMS said the rains were caused by a cold air pressure system in upper air strata which encountered by a humid, warm air bloc from the south eastern of lower atmosphere caused the unsettled weather.

The NCMS expected this weather condition to last until Tuesday noon with chances of more rains.

It appealed to the members of the public to keep away from course of valleys and floods and take extra caution while driving for their own safety.

Hailstones fell on Shrajah and rain waters filled streets and low lands.

The downpours sent mercury down, bringing about pleasant weather
