The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort (AWPR), which is being transformed into a major resort destination, is to make its international tourism exhibition debut in Berlin this March when it joins a major Abu Dhabi promotion at International Tourism Bourse.
The debut comes as AWPR implements the first phase of an expansive development which will see it grow from 110 to 2,220 acres and feature a new natural history museum, a safari open range park in a savanna-style setting, a hotel and residential areas as well as a conservation and animal breeding centre.
“We already have much to take to the global marketplace,” said His Excellency Majid Ali Al Mansouri, AWPR’s Managing Director. “We have 3,400 animals bred in open space enclosures, host bird of prey shows, organise giraffe feeding activities for visitors, display two of the world’s rarest white lions among a host of extra-ordinary visitor experiences that set the tone of our long term plans to create a regionally and internationally attractive tourism and resort destination.
“We are increasing the range and type of our offering turning our project into a world class touristic destination focusing on a unique formula for a new kind of wildlife park where animals and humans live together, sharing a healthy environment.”
The first phase of AWPR development is due for completion in two years and will feature new facilities such as the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centre, wildlife safaris offering experiences of African, Arabian and Asian safaris with encampments for authentic overnight experiences, a resort hotel and residential communities, as well as a conservation and breeding facility.
“All these new facilities will enhance AWPR’s offering and help transform it into an attractive destination that draws on Abu Dhabi’s natural habitat and local environment and focuses on its efforts to promote wildlife conservation and foster better human/habitat interaction,” added Al Mansouri.
“Tourists will enjoy their journey across AWPR’s open parks, living in a resort surrounded by wildlife animals in an authentic Arabian and desert atmosphere that will encourage life-long respect for the complex desert ecosystem and the interaction between people, culture and their environment.”
Al Ain is the heritage heart of Abu Dhabi, the largest of the seven emirates which make up the United Arab Emirates, an hour’s drive from Abu Dhabi city, the country’s capital. Surrounded by seven oases, it has a history with archaeological remains dating back over 3,000 years.
Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) is mounting its biggest event pavilion at ITB Berlin with a stakeholder line-up 10% bigger than last year and encompassing hotels, transport providers and tour operators.
“The product portfolio will be promoting has increased substantially on last year in line with the destination’s overall tourism infrastructure and services growth,” explained Mubarak Al Nuaimi, International Promotions Manager, ADTA. “There are significant new business opportunities for ITB’s trade visitors while consumer visitors will get a clearer insight into the expanding diversity of the destination.”
