Maximus Air Cargo, the largest UAE based air cargo solutions provider, joined forces with the UAE Red Crescent in stepping up aid assistance to earthquake stricken Haiti.
The aircraft, a B747-400, chartered by Maximus Air Cargo, carried 100 tonnes of urgent relief supplies. This included medical supplies and equipment, tents and blankets. The call for relief aid is now critically mounting and supplies such as these are vital lifelines.
The mission, which was accompanied by two Red Crescent officials, flew first to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic where red tape was significantly reduced due to the assistance of the Dominican Republic Embassy in Abu Dhabi. On arrival the flight was met by the Red Crescent team who had flown ahead to ensure rapid deployment of the aid.
Maximus Air Cargo has arranged many flights for Red Crescent in the past and each time every attempt is made to waiver or reduce costs. This mission was no different. Maximus Air Cargo worked closely with Abu Dhabi Airports Company and as a result, airport landing and parking costs were exempted.
Ahmed Humaid Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent, said: “The urgency to deliver relief aid to Haiti is a matter of life or death right now. The Red Crescent is grateful for the invaluable support offered in getting vital supplies to people in need as quickly as possible.”
Commenting Fathi Buhazza Maximus Air Cargo’s President and CEO said: “The situation in Haiti is heartbreaking and relief is desperately needed. Maximus Air Cargo is the exclusive partner of Red Crescent and we are committed to supporting humanitarian initiatives. It is our duty to do all we can at this time and that is exactly what we intend to do.”
