ADNOC & its Group of Companies are taking serious steps to fulfill their commitment towards sustainability.
A set of business strategies and programs are being implemented to meet the needs of the enterprise and its stakeholders today while protecting, sustaining, and enhancing the human and natural resources that will be needed in the future.
Recently, H.E. Yousef Omair bin Yousef, CEO of ADNOC launched a group-wide initiative to establish a comprehensive Sustainability Reporting Plan. Each of the General Managers or CEOs of the group’s companies personally and formally signed the sustainability agreement with the CEO of ADNOC and pledged to provide the necessary information to support the CEO’s commitment to produce the first sustainability report in Q1 2010.
“Achieving sustainability in the oil and gas sector is not an easy task. It requires considerable time and effort to enhance the group’s environmental and social performance. It also requires concerted efforts to find effective solutions to the major environmental and social challenges we face today,” says Abdullah Nasser Al-Suwaidi, ADNOC Deputy CEO and Director of Exploration and Production.
He adds: “The key to achieving the objective is in the reporting - the more closely we monitor performance the better positioned we can be to make improvements. The reporting in itself is a major challenge. Speed is essential, but quality is equally necessary – accuracy, completeness of the data is important because we need a balanced picture of the negative and positive aspects of the overall performance. To effectively deliver on this requires collaboration and team work across the whole group.”
According to says Bakheet Al Ameri, Manager ADNOC’s HSE Manager, ADNOC & its Group of Companies have made many efforts and achieved many positive results in their HSE performance.
“I’m proud to say that we have taken many positive steps. For example, gas flaring and greenhouse gas emissions from our operations have been considerably reduced. We have also applied new technologies in our business, introduced clean development mechanisms and produced cleaner fuels,
“We have established and supported a large number of educational institutions and ADNOC has always supported and sponsored various social, educational, and cultural activities within our community,” he says, elaborating that consolidating this into an effective reporting mechanism, which provides compelling images, achievements and highlights of activities across the group and is underpinned by accurate supporting data and metrics on performance will provide us with a sophisticated tool to monitor and build on existing achievements, not only for the benefit of the Group, but also for the country, in line with Sheikh Khalifa’s 2030 plan (The Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030).
