His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of UAE University and the Higher Colleges of Technology and President of Zayed University, yesterday unveiled the Education UK Exhibition (EDUKEX) at Abu Dhabi Men’s College.
Following its launch in Abu Dhabi, EDUKEX is currently being hosted in Dubai until 18 January, and allows students in the UAE the opportunity to meet numerous representatives from universities and colleges in the UK with a view to further developing their education. During the exhibition, which is organised by the British Council, over 2,000 visitors are anticipated to attend drawn to over 50 exhibitors, and a wide number of activities including presentations on topics including engineering, art and design, and medicine.
"We were honoured to have His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Chancellor of UAE University and the Higher Colleges of Technology and President of Zayed University, inaugurate the EDUKEX exhibition in Abu Dhabi," said Alison Devine, Deputy Director British Council UAE.
"British Council’s education initiatives have long been a part of the UAE education landscape, and EDUKEX is an important part of this work. By providing prospective students across the Emirates with opportunities to achieve UK qualifications, we are enabling them to return to the UAE and grow the economy with their entrepreneurial plans and ideas, an important part of developing the country," continued Devine.
EDUKEX is part of British Council’s initiative to enhance cultural and educational relations between the UAE and UK by helping create a knowledge-based economy. The main objective of EDUKEX is to raise awareness of the quality of UK education and the extensive choice of courses and institutions on offer at every academic level. Potential students and visitors to EDUKEX are given the chance to learn about English language courses, vocational courses, and higher education courses.
In the last two years, Education UK has reached over 5000 students through exhibitions and outreach presentations, carried out market research on behalf of UK institution partners and contributed to the organisation of Emirates Association of UK Alumni events to provide networking opportunities for returned graduates. British Council also plays an important role in providing opportunities for both Middle East and UK institutions to meet potential partners for mutually beneficial collaboration.
