Australia’s dynamic culinary duo of Greg Doyle and Grant King are on their way to Abu Dhabi for next month’s Gourmet Abu Dhabi 15-day gastronomic festival bringing with them a specialised approach to seafood which has garnered their Sydney restaurant Pier international recognition and a multitude of awards.
The two chefs, who began working together in the hospitality industry as youngsters, worked together on Pier’s dining experience which has seen the restaurant awarded in the San Pellegrino’s 2009 Best 100 Restaurants of the World guide, gain the elusive Three Hats honour in the Sydney Morning Herald’s Good Food Guide and win Australian Gourmet Traveller magazine’s prestigious National Restaurant of the Year accolade.
“Greg and Grant are renowned as a culinary tour de force and are something of a coup for Gourmet Abu Dhabi,” said Ahmed Hussein, Deputy Director General, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which this year is presenting the extravaganza across 18 of Abu Dhabi city’s leading restaurants. “Given Arabia’s penchant for sea food which our waters are rich in, the culinary prowess of these two highly-acclaimed masterchefs is bound to be a spectacular draw.
“It’s a great opportunity for the growing Australian community in the UAE to relive the cuisine of their celebrated commercial capital and a chance for those who have not yet been fortunate enough to visit that great waterfront city to savour the gourmet expertise of Sydney which has inspired numerous award-winning fusions cuisines.”
Chefs Doyle and King will be serving up seafood sensations at the award-winning Finz restaurant at the Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi where excitement among the staff at working with the renowned duo is already rising.
“We feel like we are getting a double bonus,” said Patrick Bischoff, Executive Chef, Beach Rotana Abu Dhabi. “Everyone is eager to pick up additional knowledge and also, perhaps, hope to pass on some of our own. I think combined we’re going to make an unbeatable team.”
Gourmet Abu Dhabi 2010 will feature a star-studded cast of the world’s leading masterchefs who together share no less than 22 Michelin awards and numerous accolades.
