NCEMA Calls Public Forum To Boost Crisis Management Awareness
(3 December 2009)
All UAE residents invited to attend a presentation on H1N1 by Dr. Keiji Fukuda, Special Advisor on Pandemic Influenza to the World Health Organisation (WHO)

The National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) will organise a public forum and a press conference in Abu Dhabi to promote public awareness on crisis prevention and the appropriate conduct during emergency situations.

The highlight of the forum, to be held at the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, the 8th of December 2009 will be a presentation on H1N1, open to everyone and led by Dr Keiji Fukuda, Special Advisor on Pandemic Influenza to the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

NCEMA, in association with the Abu Dhabi Education Council, will also host an operetta, titled ‘The Civil Society’, to be performed by students from Al Buteen School, at the forum.

The forum is part of the ongoing efforts of NCEMA to inculcate a culture of safety and security among all residents in the UAE. Meanwhile, the press conference, held alongside the forum, will announce the details of the second annual Crisis and Emergency Management Conference 2010 (CEMC) organised by NCEMA.

The CEMC, to be held in Abu Dhabi from the 11th to the 13th of January 2010, is a joint initiative of His Highness Sheikh Hazza’ Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, National Security Advisor and Chairman of NCEMA Board, His Highness Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Centre of Meteorology & Seismology, , and His Highness Staff Brigadier Pilot Sheikh Ahmed Bin Tahnoon Al-Nahyan, Chairman of the Critical National Infrastructure Authority (CNIA).

”The Crisis and Emergency Management Conference provides a platform for educators and decision makers in the UAE to learn from international experts and professionals, on the latest concerns, tools, and practices in crisis prevention and management,” said Mohammed Khalfan Al-Romaithi, General Manager of NCEMA.

“Recurring threats like the H1N1 influenza proves that public conduct, as much as quick and co-ordinated measures, determines the success of crisis response. The Crisis and Emergency Management Conference brings together government officials, members of the armed forces, diplomats and establishments capable of enlightening everyone concerned on risk mitigation and crisis response,” added Al-Romaithi.

NCEMA is currently the only co-ordination and communication authority on crisis mitigation and management in the Arab World. The federal body has already developed strong partnerships with the National Centre of Meteorology & Seismology, Critical National Infrastructure Authority, Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, Abu Dhabi Health Authority and Dubai Customs to bolster the organisation’s rapid response capabilities across the UAE.
