NYU Abu Dhabi has received a magnificent gift of two works by some of the most significant modern artists from Europe.
The lithographs include: Pablo Picasso’s Femme nue au bonnet turc and Amedeo Modigliani’s Portrait de Jeanne Hébuterne.
Mariët Westermann, NYU Abu Dhabi Vice Chancellor, said, “We are so grateful to our dear friends Fairouz and Jean-Paul Villain for their generous gift of two striking works of art to the University. The philanthropist couple are true connoisseurs of art and conveners of the UAE arts community, and they have long been great supporters of NYU Abu Dhabi and its Art Gallery. From the inception of our institution, the arts have been central to education, research, community engagement, and partnerships with other cultural institutions of the UAE. This lovely gift is another milestone for our history and mission as a comprehensive institution of higher education and research.”
In attendance at NYUAD’s gratitude ceremony were NYU Abu Dhabi leadership and faculty, members of the NYU Abu Dhabi Art Gallery Advisory Circle, and leading members of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project team.
NYUAD is a leading international research university with a fully integrated liberal arts college. The institution represents a transformative shift in higher education, where intellectual and creative endeavors are shaped and studied through global and local perspectives. The Arts and Humanities Division now offers an MFA programme in Art and Media, defined by its full-time, studio-intensive, and interdisciplinary elements.
The Art Gallery is the region’s only university art gallery offering scholarly and experimental museum exhibitions, and together with NYUAD’s Arts Center and The Institute, brings rigorous and vibrant programming to Abu Dhabi, adding to the dynamic cultural fabric of the city and creating frameworks for exchange and cross-cultural dialogue.
