Masdar Will Help Secure Energy, Development Of Human Resources And Combat Climate Change: Sultan Al Jaber

HE Dr. Sultan Al Jaber CEO of Masdar has described the Masdar as highly strategic initiative that will help all sectors of UAE economy besides, maintaining the position of Abu Dhabi.

"The project will help economy, uphold Abu Dhabi position, usher in technological development and sustain human capital", he said while in an interaction session here with the foreign media invited by the National Media Council (NMC) on the occasion of 38th UAE National Day.

He added that Abu Dhabi is leveraged by its substantial resources and experience in global energy markets into the technologies of the future. One of the key objectives of Masdar is to position Abu Dhabi as a world-class research and development hub for new energy technologies, effectively balancing its strong position in an evolving world energy market.

Al Jaber remarked that Masdar is the single largest investment by any government in the world on renewable energy, and "the way we approach the renewable energy is totally different from others, we started right from the laboratory, we are funding research, funding students, research, development in the renewable energy." He observed that the Initiative driven by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) is a global cooperative platform for the open engagement in the search for solutions to some of most pressing issues which are energy security, climate change and the development of human expertise in sustainability.

For investment in Pakistan he said that "we are making investments in Spain and UK besides others countries in renewable energy sector and we will continue to do so if we think that investment projects are economically viable. We will explore the investment opportunities in Pakistan." Elaborating the Masdar Initiative, he said that it is a multi-faceted project and we are positioning ourselves as global leaders in the push for new low carbon energy technologies and clean, sustainable ways of living. "We are working across a variety of different areas.

Sometimes we are investing directly, in other areas we are building partnerships and creating networks", he added.

He said that in Masdar "we can deliver practical leadership by showing what can be done, and by demonstrating how to do it. It is an ambitious aim, but one we are confident we can deliver." Dr. Al Jaber said that our initiatives include substantial investment in innovative and renewable energy technologies; the fostering of talent, expertise, and knowledge sharing in renewable energy disciplines; the construction of local and regional green power production facilities that complement and balance fossil fuel production; the reduction of carbon emissions through active participation in carbon markets; and the creation of a model, zero carbon, zero waste city that demonstrates the practical viability and appeal of living in alternative energy environments.

He underscored that the development of clean sources of energy is a global responsibility with benefits for every aspect of life on the planet.
