The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) today announced a strong international line up of delegates at the Building Schools Exhibition and Conference – Middle East and North Africa (BSEC MENA) being held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from 13-14 December 2009.
“This is the first time BSEC is being held in the Middle East and as the official endorsing partner of BSEC MENA, ADEC is delighted that so many international delegates will be in Abu Dhabi in December to discuss the design and construction of schools” said H.E. Salem Al Sayeri, Executive Director of Support Services of ADEC.
“ADEC’s 10 Year Strategic Plan sets out an agenda for a historic transformation in education – this includes providing our students with world class facilities to help them achieve their learning goals. We welcome BSEC MENA as an opportunity for us to come together with other decision makers to share ideas, promote new innovative building practices and look at what we need to do in the future.” added H.E. Al Sayeri.
BSEC originated in the United Kingdom (UK) five years ago and has since expanded to include the MENA region event. In the first year, BSEC had 100 conference attendees and 300 exhibition attendees. This has now grown to an overall attendance of 8,000 in its fifth year. A large attendance is expected for the inaugural MENA event being held in Abu Dhabi in December this year.
“With opinion leaders and decision makers from Saudi Arabia, Jordan, UK, Egypt and Qatar already confirming their attendance, this will be a unique opportunity for education experts, governments, businesses, investors, schools and universities, international institutions and developers from across the globe to get first hand information about developing school facilities”. said H.E. Al Sayeri.
With so many countries in the MENA region currently investing in education, BSEC MENA will also be an opportunity for government and the private sector across the MENA region to develop partnerships and share ideas in relation to school design. This will include discussion around design codes, sustainability requirements, and integrating schools into local communities so that schools are located close to residential areas and facilities such as parks and recreational amenities.
“Our government leaders have identified education as a key pillar for supporting the economic agenda of the Emirate and BSEC is a wonderful opportunity for Abu Dhabi to showcase its expertise and leadership that will see the education system transform into a system of education excellence underpinned by state of the art facilities. We are excited about showing the world that ADEC is putting education first. ” H.E. Al Sayeri said.
In addition to the formal exhibition and conference programme, an announcement will be made by ADEC during BSEC MENA that will detail its school facilities programme that will see a record number of schools built and renovated over coming years. This will include a signing ceremony with Musanada who will partner with ADEC to provide design development and construction management services as well as construction supervision. ADEC’s school facilities program will replace buildings in disrepair, alleviate enrollment pressure and provide learning environments of the highest quality.
BSEC MENA will also see the unveiling and awarding of the winning designs of ADEC’s Future Schools Design Competition. The competition gave students the opportunity to develop school designs over a series of phases of the competition and the first place winners will be formally awarded during the conference.
