The Chairman of MetitoBerlinwasser, a joint venture between Metito, the international water desalination and wastewater treatment specialist from the UAE and Berlinwasser, one of the largest and most sophisticated integrated water and wastewater utility service providers in Europe, has announced the importance of a Public Private Partnership (PPP) when managing water utilities in the UAE at a seminar held at the Abu Dhabi Conference today.
Mr. Dieter Ernst, Chairman of MetitoBerlinwasser, former Borough Mayor of West Berlin and CEO within the Berlinwasser Group, having been integral in revolutionising the whole city’s water supplies following the destruction of the Berlin wall, was speaking as part of a panel discussion offering insight into Abu Dhabi’s approach to water management and increasing the efficiency of water consumption.
Mr. Ernst said: “Traditionally, the main concern when implementing a PPP has been related to job losses, but we have seen in Berlin that this can be managed such that it is not necessarily the case. PPP in water management as a whole is the best way forward for the UAE because it will drive efficiencies into infrastructure to ensure a sustainable future.
MetitoBerlinwasser was launched in Abu Dhabi a year ago and is committed to offering a variety of industry leading services in the public water sector across the Middle East and North Africa.
The Abu Dhabi Conference is the definitive event for business in the UAE and bought together Abu Dhabi’s key decision makers, government officials and leading industry figures, to discuss the issues pertaining to the future landscape of the Abu Dhabi economy.
