(19 September 2009)

Watani volunteers accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry of Economy distributed Harees to residents in Al Faqaa area in Al Ain.

His Excellency Sultan Al Mansouri, UAE Minister of Economy, praised the efforts of Watani in reviving UAE traditions, which are a part of the national identity.

“The tradition of distributing harees is rooted in memory of every UAE national and by reviving it and re-energising it, we are further building the link between the old and new generations and thus preserving our heritage," he said.

Mr Al Mansouri added: “Ramadan is the month of solidarity and bonding, and the perfect occasion to meet elders, friends and relatives, and share food with them before Iftar, especially the traditional harees. The Ministry of Economy is honoured to participate in reviving such traditions and look forward to supporting Watani’s objectives through true partnership. Personally too, I support any activity promoted by Watani.."

Distributing harees to Al Faqaa residents, Dr Hisham Al Hajii, Director of Corporate Excellence at the Ministry of Economy, expressed his happiness in participating in the national activity. “I thank Watani’s officials for their efforts in imprinting the national identity and national spirit amongst youth through different activities organized throughout the UAE. As a kid, we used to distribute Harees with my friends to people in the Fereej."

Ahmed Al Mansouri, Managing Director of Watani Programme said: "The participation of the Ministry of Economy and other notable figures from the UAE society in Haress distribution activities this year, is an inspriation for coming generations to uphold our traditions and values.
