It’s almost time to don your fancy dress, grab your country’s flag and head to The Sevens for one of city’s favourite sporting events – the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens.
Organisers have announced that tickets for this year’s tournament, which will take place from December 3-5, will go on sale tomorrow, September 7.
Following the massive success of last year’s event, which saw world record-breaking crowds of over 130,000 flocking to Emirates’ purpose-built venue ‘The Sevens’ for the first time, fans are being encouraged to buy their tickets early.
Tickets will be available from The Sevens ground on the Al Ain Road, Emirates headquarters, the Dnata Travel Centre on Sheikh Zayed Road and numerous Costa and MMI outlets as well as online through www.dubairugby7s.com. The Costa outlets where tickets are on sale are: Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Mall and Al Wahda Mall, Abu Dhabi and the MMI outlets where they are available are: Al Wasl Rd, Ibn Battuta, Mall of the Emirates, Sheikh Zayed Road and Festival City. The public is reminded that a valid alcohol licence is required to enter any MMI outlet. It is also important to take note of different timings for each of the outlets during the Holy month of Ramadan.
Making a return to The Sevens in December will be defending champions South Africa who will face some tough competition in the form of England (a team that was hot on their heels in last year’s series), as well as former champions New Zealand and Fiji.
Dubai has been a happy hunting ground for the South Africans in the past. As coach Paul Treu pointed out: “You’re not going to get a better atmosphere than at The Sevens – the Dubai tournament has always been phenomenal and I’m sure it will be again this year. We couldn’t ask for a better place to start the Sevens World Series.”
What also makes the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens such a special event is the fact that over 150 local, social and international invitational sides take part in the three-day spectacle, meaning over 2000 players will converge on The Sevens in the first weekend of December.
“It’s hard to imagine that it’s already been almost a year since that exceptional first Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens at The Sevens,” said Gary Chapman, President Group Services and Dnata, Emirates Group.
“Preparations are well underway for what we are certain will be another spectacularly successful tournament at the beginning of December,” he added.
For those wanting to enjoy the weekend in style, corporate packages are also available and can be purchased online at www.dubairugby7s.com
