The Foreign Ministry has demanded UAE citizens wishing to travel to Saudi Arabia or passing through its lands to other GCC member states to use their passports instead of IDs.
Director of Ministry’s Consular Affairs Sultan Al Qurtasi stated that the move was motivated by a Saudi decision to suspend functioning of the IDs between the two countries.
’’Out of its keenness to facilitate easy movement of UAE citizens, the Ministry urges those who would like to travel to Saudi Arabia or pass through its lands to use their passports,’ he explained.
He added that instructions were given to the UAE Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate in Jeddah to issue return documents to UAE citizens who arrived Saudi Arabia by land and those who were already there but didn’t carry their passports in order to allow them back home.
Similar instructions were also given to UAE missions in other GCC countries to issue return permits to UAE citizens who arrived these countries by land via Saudi borders and didn’t carry their passports with them.
