The Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi is participating in the AccessAbilities Expo to express its commitment for the inclusion of People of Determination.
The Department is working on a strategy that includes four enablers and four priorities. Our priorities are: Health and Social Care, Education and Learning Support, Work and Employment Support, and Inclusive and Accessible Communities, said Alanoud Al Sawai.
“We support people of determination who are one of our target audience as a social sector,” she said.
The department is participating in the Expo with its partners; the Authority of Social Contribution - Ma’an and Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination.
Ma’an is showcasing the winning projects of the first cycle of the Ma’an Social Incubator programs, and ZHO is displaying ‘The Bee’ products which are made by People with Determination.
The Department of Community Development was established to oversee, empower and regulate the social and community development sector in Abu Dhabi and provides services that are of quality, effective and accessible to everyone. The DCD’s priority is to build awareness and knowledge around social issues pertinent to Abu Dhabi and relevant to its people. The DCD is committed to providing a dignified life for all and unlocking the potential of everyone living in Abu Dhabi.
Ma’an was established in February 2019 by the Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi with the aim of bringing together the government, the private sector and civil society to support a culture of social contribution and participation. The authority will deliver solutions for social challenges with four main pillars of work – a Social Investment Fund, a Social Incubator Program, a Social Volunteering Program and the introduction of a new type of public contracting, Social Impact Bonds.
The Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination provides 32 services including 12 main services and 20 minor services to over 1,700 of people of determination through 14 centres for care and rehabilitation as well as two sports clubs for people of determination all over the emirate of Abu Dhabi together with the blind care office.
The Organization had launched 12/3 Program in October 2018 to achieve the precedent concept of dealing with disability cases by creating an electronic system that connects the Zayed Higher Organisation with the Abu Dhabi Department of Health by Smart Solutions and Services Authority. The 3/12 Program indicates the date of December 3, which is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
