The Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MSFNCA) will conduct the final workshop in a series of training sessions organised exclusively for media professionals on August 19, 2009, at the Executive Masters Hall of Sharjah University. The fifth and final session is entitled “Local Media Coverage of FNC elections.”
His Excellency Tariq Lootah, Director General of the MSFNCA lauded the feedback from the media on the workshops held, stating that it reflects the high level of awareness and interest in the UAE’s political process.
He said that the ministry aims to build a strategic partnership with media institutions based on interactivity, coordination and exchanging views. Mr Lootah said the objective of the process is to enhance awareness on the parliamentarian system across all cross-sections of the society.
The last session will highlight the local media’s coverage of the FNC elections and will present participants with a comprehensive study on the coverage that appeared about the elections during December 2006 in four local media - 3 in Arabic and 1 in English, namely Al Ittihad, Al Khaleej, Al Bayan and Gulf News. The study will also include the methodological and theoretical aspects of the research, results and recommendations.
The MSFNCA has launched the political awareness workshops since the beginning of the year. It has organized five sessions with different themes. The workshops contributed in raising the political culture of media professionals. The initiative also helped in building strategic relations as it is based on information sharing on ways to cover political events and identifying new aspects of political development in the country.
