The 14th edition of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, SZBA, has begun accepting nominations for 2019-2020.
The process, which is open until 1st October, 2019, will culminate with the award’s presentation ceremony at Louvre Abu Dhabi, to be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, who will honour the winners.
All nominated works should be published in the last two years and should not be previously recognised by a prominent international prize. The works must be written in Arabic, except for those nominated for the "Translation" category (translated either from or to Arabic) and for the "Arabic Culture in Other Languages" category, which accepts works in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.
For the Cultural Personality of the Year Award, applicants should be nominated by academic, research or cultural institutions; by literary associations and universities; or by three intellectually and culturally prominent figures. For the remaining categories, applicants are requested to submit their nominations online.
Highlighting the vital role played by the Sheikh Zayed Book Award in reinforcing Arab culture on a global scale, Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Secretary General of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, confirmed that the award’s transparent procedures have strengthened its position as one of the top literary awards.
Last year, the Sheikh Zayed Book Award received a total of 1,500 nominations from around the world, with the award continuing to recognise writers, translators, novelists and publishers who have contributed to promoting Arabic culture.
