Emirates Steel, the only integrated steel plant in the UAE and a subsidiary of the General Holding Corporation (SENAAT), has reaffirmed its commitment to developing and implementing best practices in health and safety while celebrating World Steel Safety Day on April 28.
During the week, the company will welcome local and international organizations to exhibit their innovative health and safety solutions and foster dialogue with employees on how to ensure the highest international standards of workplace safety are maintained across Emirates Steel’s facilities.
The celebration of the World Steel Safety Day comes roughly one year after Emirates Steel’s implementation of the Aman Safety Excellence Program, developed in partnership with Dupont Sustainable Solutions, the global leader in safety and process safety management. The program aims to mitigate key risks in day-to-day operations, raise the level of discipline in executing tasks at the shop floor level and build a strong and consistent safety culture.

Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Steel Company, said: “The safety of our operations and the wellbeing of our employees are a core value at Emirates Steel and nothing is more important to us than having every member of our company return home safely to their families every single day. We have implemented numerous initiatives over our twenty year history to ensure that our plant is a safe and secure place to work, and that feedback from our employees is incorporated into all of our policies and procedures.”

Over the course of the week, companies including Emirates Logistics, NAFCO, Abu Dhabi Police and DuPont will be exhibiting at Emirates Steel’s headquarters. They will present their latest health and safety solutions and share lessons learned. Emirates Steel, through working with local and international firms and stakeholders, seeks to ensure that it continues to lead the industry in implementing best practices and raising awareness of the importance of health and safety.
As a part of the week’s activities, Emirates Steel is holding a safety competition for those working across the company, Additionally, the company is hosting activities throughout the week on best practices for staying healthy at work, as part of the company’s continued commitment to the comprehensive wellbeing of its employees.
An initiative of the World Steel Association, World Steel Safety Day was established in 2014 to reinforce awareness of the five most common causes of safety incidents and to create a safer working environment across the entire steel industry worldwide. Every year on April 28th hundreds of thousands of employees and contractors from across the world engage in conversations around safety.
