International athletes competing in the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2019 (ADWPJJC) today had an insight into the UAE capital landmarks and attractions.
As part of the athletes’ welcome to the capital, Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) organised a visit to some of the city’s iconic landmarks, including the newly reopened Qasr Al Hosn, where the players were given an exclusive tour of the site and its remarkable components.
Running from 20-26 April, the ADWPJJC unites thousands of athletes from around the world, who gather to compete for the championship title.
As the largest and most important event on the global jiu-jitsu calendar, the championship continues to cement Abu Dhabi’s reputation as a hub for major international sporting events. This year’s edition of ADWPJJC attracted more of the top champion competitors from around the globe than ever before.
Coinciding with the Year of Tolerance, ADWPJJC 2019 draws parallels between the UAE’s values and Jiu-Jitsu’s principles. Being the event’s Gold Sponsor, DCT Abu Dhabi is supporting the competition while promoting the Emirate’s top attractions and its leading status as a destination of distinction.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, has demonstrated his commitment to making the UAE a center for Jiu-Jitsu by designating it as the UAE’s national sport. This strengthens the philosophy of "healthy mind, healthy body" which aims to make Abu Dhabi a health-conscious society.
