MOHAP Underscores Commitment To Providing World-Class Healthcare
(6 April 2019)

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention continues to step up its efforts to promote health services towards global competitive levels, living up to the UAE's reputation, said Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention.

In a statement marking World Health Day, Dr. Al Owais said, "The UAE is joining the world countries in celebration of the World Health Day which falls on 7th April every year. The theme for 2019 is 'Health for all – everyone, everywhere'.

"In this regard," the minister added, "the Ministry of Health underlines its commitment to launching health initiatives, programmes, and projects which consolidate the leading position of our health care system, in addition to our integrated and innovative health services in line with the latest medical technologies."

Providing world-class healthcare is one of the six pillars of the National Agenda in line with Vision 2021. The UAE government has set key performance indicators, KPIs, to measure its performance against its targets of 2021, some of which include the number of deaths from cardiovascular diseases, prevalence of diabetes, prevalence of obesity amongst children, average healthy life expectancy, number of deaths from cancer, and the percentage of accredited health facilities.

Dr. Al Owais affirmed, "We, at the Ministry of Health and Prevention, spare no effort to explore the future and to achieve the health services sustainability following the country’s wise leadership to lead future governments in pursuance of the pillars of the National Agenda for UAE Vision 2021."

He praised the Ministry's staff, across all supervisory and executive levels, for carrying out their roles and attaining objectives of the UAE vision to achieve a world-class healthcare system.

"We reiterate our commitment to providing innovative health care solutions along with the sustainable investment in national human cadres to find therapeutic and preventative solutions for chronic diseases and to lead the future exploration in the healthcare services," the minister continued, adding that the ministry also affirms its determination "to provide the best healthcare services for patients and members of society and to achieve further accomplishments to promote our healthcare services to reach prestigious competitive levels living up to the UAE’s reputation."

"The Ministry of Health and Prevention is keen on launching innovative initiatives and projects to consolidate the preventative aspect and to combat chronic diseases. To that end, we rely on integrating Artificial Intelligence, the fourth industrial revolution and smart applications in health services. Also, we provide remote healthcare services and use the virtual reality technology in accordance with the best international practices and in line with the UAE Centennial 2071," Dr. Al Owais underscored.

Recently, the UAE was ranked first globally on the availability of quality healthcare in the 2018 World Poll, which tracks the opinions of people in more than 160 countries on what matters most to them.
