The General Secretariat of Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation has announced the names of the winners of the international photography competition; "The Date Palm in the Eyes of the World" at its tenth session in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi International Photography Association.
The first place - in the competition which was held under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Award - was won by the photographer Habib Alzadjali; while the second by Qabil Ghawas; and Salem Alsawafi for the third place.
This came in a press statement made by Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award, who said that the award reinforces the human relationship with the date palm tree through the use of the photography art as a means to develop public awareness of the importance of the tree, creating a wider space for the exchange of experiences among photographers from all over the world.
Dr. Zaid added that it also highlights the tourist, environmental and heritage elements of the date palm trees through photography and encourages the connection of humans to the land and environment.
The 2019 session saw the participation of 258 photographers representing 22 countries around the world, and the number of participating pictures was 862.
