The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF), the official authority for the sport of Jiu-Jitsu in the UAE, has announced the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship (ADWPJJC) – the largest event on the sport’s global calendar – will return to the UAE capital for its 11th edition from 20-26 April 2019, at the Mubadala Arena in Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi.
During the official launch press conference at the Ritz-Carlton Abu Dhabi, the UAEJJF revealed the ADWPJJC 2019 will host elite athletes from 100 plus countries, contesting a series of championship titles and competing for a total prize fund of USD 687,000.
The Federation also announced that this year’s championship will build on the overwhelming success of the previous 10 editions.
Open to all nationalities from the UAE, the region and across the globe, the week-long tournament - the final event of the UAEJJF World Ranking Series for the sports season 2018 - 2019 - will feature the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival & Para Jiu-Jitsu Competitions on 20 April, the Abu Dhabi World Youth Championship on 21 and 22 April, the Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship on 23 April, and the professional competitions for blue to black belt from 24 to 26 April.
During the official announcement, the UAEJJF announced that the championship will be followed by a global awards ceremony, The Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Award, in which the Federation will award the best talent and key supporters in the field of Jiu-Jitsu with a share of an additional USD 198,000.
The championship was launched by His Excellency Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Acting Executive Director of Education Affairs Sector, in the presence of H.E. Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary, Abu Dhabi Sports Council; Mr. Khalil Alsaffar, Head of Section - Sport Production & Operations, Abu Dhabi Sports Channels; Mr. Fouad Fahmi Darwish, General Manager, Palms Sports, Mr. Ibrahim Alsayed Ahmed Al Hashmi, Executive Director of Corporate Services, Emaar Properties; Mr. Saeed Hijazi, Assistant General Manager – Sales Jaguar and Land Rover, Premier Motors; Mr. Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Chief Executive Officer, UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation.

HE Aref Hamad Al Awani, General Secretary, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship underpins how the sport has become a cultural phenomenon in the UAE.
