The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, DCT Abu Dhabi, is set to host the 25th annual Special Libraries Association - Arabian Gulf Chapter, SLA-AGC, Conference and Exhibition, under the theme ‘The Internet of Things: The Future of Connected Internet Societies’, from 5th to 7th March at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Abu Dhabi.

The annual conference is a platform for experts, exhibitors, professionals, companies, and other stakeholders in the library sector to exchange ideas and best practices, and discuss future challenges facing the sector in the age of technology. The conference will also tackle key topics including ‘Information Security’, ‘Privacy’, ‘Legislations and Regulations’, ‘Application’, ‘Knowledge Management’ and ‘Standards’.

‘Legislations and Regulations’ will explore data flow and protection across borders, and the governance of open data, whereas the ‘Application’ session will focus on IoT and the use of correct data to develop the decision-making process.

‘Knowledge Management’ will look at how IoT can contribute to the collection and transformation of data into knowledge to improve its functionality; examining the influence of IoT and Big Data, knowledge management practices, smartphone applications, and ways of managing electronic libraries. The ‘Standards’ session will shed light on the general outlook of IoT devices and applications within a wide range of industries.

The Special Libraries Association, SLA, founded in 1909, is a nonprofit global organisation headquartered in the United States. SLA serves more than 9,000 members in 75 countries in the information sector, including corporate, academic and government information specialists. It promotes and strengthens its members through learning, incentives, and networking initiatives.

The Arabian Gulf Chapter was established in 1992 through the Aramco Library Staff initiative originating in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Its annual conference is held in one of the Arabian Gulf states, with programmes overseen and managed by the Chapter's professional members.
