The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has announced the launch of the 'Illustrators’ and Art Corner Competition', which will take place during the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, ADIBF 2019, from 24th - 30th April.
This new competition is part of DCT Abu Dhabi’s efforts to ensure that poetry and literature – especially proverbs and adages – a source of inspiration for illustrators.
During ADIBF 2019, DCT Abu Dhabi will encourage participants of all nationalities to draw inspiration from Arab poetry, and also the works of poetess Ousha Al Suwaidi (Fatat Al-Arab), who has been chosen as the highlighted personality of ADIBF 2019.
The competition will also focus on the ‘Year of Tolerance’, with organisers encouraging illustrators to seek inspiration from poetry and literary works that promote acceptance and solidarity. It will be divided into two categories: professional illustrators and amateur illustrators. The judging panel will be made up of representatives from DCT Abu Dhabi, as well as experts in the field.
The entrants will be judged on their professional execution, aesthetic technique, and harmony between the illustration and the original source of inspiration. The panel will also judge technical standards and the illustration’s ability to convey a holistic image with a clear meaning, and to transform words into pictorial forms.
Applications for the competition are now open and will be accepted until 4th March 2019, with the winners to be announced during ADIBF 2019.
The competition aims to offer a platform to both artists and amateurs alike to express their creativity, while gaining greater exposure for their talents.
