ADEK Launches Winter Activities Program In Abu Dhabi
(12 December 2018)

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, has launched its Winter Activities Program in Abu Dhabi under the slogan "The UAE Spirit Camp". The program will run from the 16th of December 2018 until the 10th of January 2019 as a part of ADEK’s efforts to take advantage of student holidays, introduce them to the UAE culture and reinforce the students’ national identity.

The program consists of three main projects; Heritage, Culture and Science at Community Schools, Sir Bani Yas Challenge and the Future Leaders Journey.

H.E. Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman at ADEK said, “We are very keen to enhance the skills of our students and develop their personalities and talents through our initiatives and projects aimed at optimizing their time during the holidays. This is in addition to our long-standing pursuit of launching innovative projects that are in line with the leadership's guidance to encourage innovation and to spread the culture of creativity in the UAE community.”

He added, “We believe that such projects will help entrench the strong culture of the UAE through the launching of comprehensive educational and social education projects, which will enhance knowledge, innovation and the preservation of heritage among school students.”

His Excellency continued, “The Winter Activities Program targets students across different grades, through establishing an integrated program designed to meet the needs which commensurate with each age group. At the same time, the program will enhance their skills, ignite their sense of teamwork spirit and help them become more aware of their responsibility towards the community as part of ADEK’s priority to focus on promoting the national identity of our students.”

His Excellency Dr. Yousef Al Sheryani, Undersecretary at ADEK commented: “It is very important to provide diverse initiatives and programs to students. This program is part of a series of strategic initiatives adopted by ADEK to raise an educated generation capable of serving the community. The program also helps in investing students' time in learning science, technology, arts, engineering and mathematics.”

His Excellency pointed out that, “Through its three main projects, the winter activities seek to provide attractive and diverse content for students that helps develop their academic abilities and promotes cultural and national concepts, through educational, recreational, sporting and innovative activities which cover all technical aspects relevant to school students in Abu Dhabi.”

The first project of the Winter Activities Program, entitled Heritage, Culture and Science at Community Schools will run for three weeks from December 23rd to January 10th 2019 for all Grade Levels.

The program consists of four pillars; Science and Math, Robotics and Programming, Sports and Health, as well as Culture and Heritage. The program will accommodate approximately 1,000 students divided into three groups. It aims to instill national pride in the students, and enhance their awareness and appreciation of the Emirati culture, all while boosting their skills in introductory fields of knowledge. This is achieved through a series of field trips that take place during school holidays, focusing on education through entertaining and engaging techniques.

The second project, Sir Bani Yas Challenge will run from 16th to 20th December 2018 for high school students and includes scientific, environmental, sports and cultural activities. The program aims to identify and reward high performing students, teaching them leadership skills and instilling in them a sense of responsibility through various activities. The students will be divided into six groups of ten, carrying out different activities over four days, based on their skills and capabilities.

The third project, Future Leaders Journey will last for ten days from 21st to 30th December 2018, for 100 high school students, divided into three groups. This program features a wide range of pivotal activities, such as field visits to historical and cultural sites and national monuments in the country, as well as competitions, workshops and projects aimed at providing students with the skills that enable them to become future leaders, introducing them to the UAE culture and nourishing their national identity.
