Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), the leading national entity for international development aid, has financed the construction of the US$1.5 million Mobile Training Unit. Aiming to enhance the employability of young Guineans in Boké, one of the country’s resource-rich provinces, the Mobile Training Unit falls in-line with the national priorities outlined by the Guinean government.
Funded through the Abu Dhabi government’s US$90 million (AED330 million) grant earmarked for the development of Guinea’s economy, the ground-breaking ceremony of the Mobile Training Unit was attended by His Excellency Ibrahima Kassory, Prime Minister of Guinea, and His Excellency Ahmed Nasser Abdul Rahim Al-Khaja, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Guinea.
Catering to electricians, masons and plumbers who have completed their training at the centre for Professional Training in Boké, the Mobile Training Unit will help specialised workers with practical skills and prepare them for job interviews and placement tests.
Prime Minister His Excellency Ibrahima Kassory Fofana, said: “Education – the transmission of knowledge to young people – has always played an important role in my life. The Unit we are building today demonstrates the determination and commitment of the Government to promote training and youth employment in Guinea.”
The Guinean Prime Minister praised the bilateral ties between the UAE and Guinea, pointing out the achievements of ADFD in financing projects that support economic and social development.
For his part, His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, said: “As strategic partners of the Guinean government, the Fund is committed to supporting outlined national priorities and advancing the economic development agenda. We are proud of this milestone project pioneered by the Guinean government that will help develop around 7,800 national cadres and prepare them for specialised careers.”
Vincent Michi, CEO of the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, said: “Boké plays a key role today in the economic development of Guinea because of its booming bauxite mining industry. Our goal is to ensure that young people have the skills they need to benefit from this growth and be able to seize employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.”
Since 1977, ADFD has enjoyed close bilateral ties with the Guinean government and underpinned sustainable development projects across key sectors, particularly energy, food security, industry, and agriculture.
