The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi, DCT Abu Dhabi, has established a partnership with Air Baltic following the news that the carrier will begin direct flights between Abu Dhabi and the Latvian capital Riga this autumn.
The direct route will be available to passengers between the 28th October 2018 and 30th April 2019 and will cover the entire winter season. Air Baltic’s main hub is based in Riga, but the airline will also be providing travellers from both Estonia and Lithuania with the chance to visit Abu Dhabi by offering direct routes from their secondary hubs in Tallinn and Vilnius respectively.
Announcing the new route, Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, Executive Director Tourism Sector, at DCT Abu Dhabi, said, "Air Baltic’s direct flight from Riga to Abu Dhabi is testament to the emirate’s growing reputation as a world-class destination for tourists and business travellers alike. As Abu Dhabi continues to further boost its offerings to overseas visitors, both business travel and leisure tourism will underpin our vision and strategy to meet future demand. Against this backdrop, we recognise the Baltic States as a future growth market for Abu Dhabi, based on the number of visitors we’ve welcomed from this region in the last few years alone. Working with Air Baltic, we are excited to welcome even more visitors to Abu Dhabi, to explore the Emirate’s rich offerings and enjoy its unique experiences."
Through this new route, Air Baltic is aiming to fly almost 10,000 passengers to Abu Dhabi during the coming winter months. Last year, Abu Dhabi saw a noticeable increase in visitors from the Baltic States as Air Baltic previously launched a direct route between Riga and Abu Dhabi, with almost 7,000 passengers using the airline to visit the emirate.
