Abu Dhabi’s Al Manhal Majlis, The Ministry Of State For FNC Affairs Hold Lecture On Political Participation And The Development Of UAE Parliamentary Life
(16 October 2018)

The Majalis Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court organised a lecture on political participation and the development of UAE parliamentary life in collaboration with the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs (MFNCA).

Hosted by Abu Dhabi’s Al Manhal Majlis, the lecture featured His Excellency Dr Saeed Al Alghufli, Assistant Under-Secretary at the MFNCA, who explored the effects of political participation on the development of parliamentary life in the UAE and the prominent role that UAE citizens play in the decision-making process and the UAE’s sustainable development and achievements.

The lecture was attended by Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, Minister of the Federal Supreme Council at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs.

H.E. Dr Alghufli stressed the importance of these lectures, thanking the organisers and describing them as an important instrument providing access to all segments of society, to familiarise them with the UAE’s parliamentary progress and mobilise them to play an active role in the UAE’s political development.

The Undersecretary went on to note that UAE citizens and their needs and demands are top priority for the country’s leadership. “The UAE leadership is dedicated to providing all means necessary to empower citizens, enhance their awareness, and incite them to participate in the national decision-making process,” H.E. said, referring to UAE citizens as the engine driving comprehensive development across all sectors in the UAE.

“Guided by the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership, the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs works to promote political participation among all segments of society,” H.E. Dr Alghufli added, noting that parliamentary life in the UAE has witnessed great achievements, becoming an example to be emulated as it was designed to take into account the singularities of the UAE’s society and the aspirations of its people.

H.E. Alghufli went on to assert that the UAE, and since its inception by Founding Father the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, has firmly believed in citizens’ right to participate in politics, and has always regarded that as a pillar of social stability. The country continues to promote political participation today, he asserted, out of an unwavering belief in the importance of engaging and consulting with the people to drive development and achieve excellence and leadership.

Alghufli noted that the speech given by UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the 34th UAE National Day in 2005 is a continuation of the politically inclusive approach rooted in the UAE’s government system and a comprehensive national plan of action that promotes sustainable development in the UAE.

“H.H. Sheikh Khalifa’s Political Empowerment Programme emboldens the role of the Federal National Council to offer support and guidance to the executive branch of the UAE Government, and remain close to the people and their concerns” H.E. said. “This makes political empowerment an integral part of a balanced development process implemented gradually to allow for the promotion of a political and electoral culture that strengthens the sense of loyalty to the country.”

The Undersecretary noted that the three previous FNC elections that took place in the UAE – in 2006, 2011, and 2015 – have established a strong political culture among members of the community and enriched their political awareness.

This series of lectures is part of the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs to enhance political awareness in the community, and foster communication with all segments of society. This, in turn, complements the Ministry’s vision and strategic objectives, which call for building long-term national partnerships.
