The Majalis Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court organised a lecture on the parliamentary process and political development in the UAE at 'Majlis Al Mushrif' in collaboration with the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs, MFNCA.
Tariq Hilal Lootah, the Ministry’s Under-Secretary for Federal National Council, FNC, Affairs, discussed the UAE’s previous elections and the successes that were achieved in that regard, highlighting the great turnout and participation in the polls from all segments of society. He stressed the prominent role that elections play in establishing and strengthening political participation, all the while empowering citizens to be involved in decision-making.
Lootah began his speech by expressing gratitude to the individuals involved in the launch of the 'Majalis' initiative for the tremendous efforts exerted to reach all segments of society, increasing their political awareness, and introducing them to major political developments and progress taking place across the UAE.
"The importance of the Majalis initiative stems from its ability to offer a platform for communicating with all members of society and discussing the issues that matter most to them," Lootah said. He noted that the Political Empowerment Programme, launched by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the 34th UAE National Day in 2005, is a national plan and a significant milestone in the country’s journey to promote political participation and public engagement in national decision-making.
"The UAE’s parliamentary experience is as trailblazing as it is distinguished; it has registered one triumph after the other, engaging the community, encouraging them to participate, and establishing itself as a fundamental principle of political development in the country. This, in turn, highlights the importance of promoting political participation within the community and encouraging them to be actively involved in the electoral process, which reflects their loyalty to the country and its leadership," he added.
Lootah concluded by stating that as the General Secretariat of the National Election Committee, the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs is committed to offering best-in-class services and adhering to the highest international standards of accuracy and transparency to ensure the success of the elections, using state-of-the-art electronic voting systems.
