Sawab Centre Launches New Campaign On Its Social Media Platforms
(20 September 2018)

The Sawab Centre, a joint UAE-US digital communications hub to combat violent extremist ideologies online and promote positive alternatives, has announced the launch of a new campaign on its social media platforms, under the hashtag of #AfterTerrorism.

The two-day campaign is launched in Arabic, English and French on Sawab’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube platforms.

Coinciding with the observance of the International Day of Peace, which is observed on 21st September, the campaign will highlight the stories of victims and survivors of violent extremist and terrorist attacks throughout the world in France, Burma, and Norway, among other places.

#AfterTerrorism will address the tragedy and pain in the aftermath of such attacks, but also the inspirational stories of survivors and family members who later founded organisations to help victims of similar attacks or to positively impact their communities. In commemoration of the International Day of Peace, Sawab will also feature the powerful stories of world figures such as Malala, Nelson Mandela, and Pope John Paul II, who survived violent extremism and later became champions of hope, forgiveness and peaceful reconciliation.

The campaign is Sawab Centre’s thirtieth social media campaign countering violent extremism and presenting positive alternatives to violent and divisive ideologies. Other Sawab campaigns have focused on terrorism’s devastation of families, communities, and ancient civilisations, as well as positive themes such as the merciful acts of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) and the important contributions of women in preventing and resisting extremism and in advancing their societies.

Since its launch in July 2015, the Sawab Centre has encouraged governments, communities, and individual voices to engage proactively to counteract online extremism. Over this time, the centre has given voice to the millions of people around the world who oppose violent extremist ideologies, while supporting efforts to expose terrorist groups’ brutality and criminal nature.
