Emirati women are playing a vital humanitarian role, guided by the humanitarian legacy of the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Emirati women have achieved progress in the area of humanitarian volunteering, through the generous support of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), who gave the UAE’s daughters all her attention and launched and adopted creative initiatives, which have helped to attract, train and empower women as local and international humanitarian ambassadors.
Through the "Fatima bint Mubarak Volunteering Programme" and her humanitarian campaigns and scientific forums that aim to create female Emirati leaders, Emirati women, with confidence and competence, have managed humanitarian projects in many countries, helped to ease the suffering of needy people, and served humanity, regardless of colour, sex, race, or religion, in line with the legacy of the Founder, Sheikh Zayed.
Noura Al Suwaidi, Director of the GWU, stated that the UAE has prioritised its efforts to empower women, create a supportive environment for them, and provide them with the means of performing their vital role for the nation, as they are key partners in achieving the country’s accomplishments and establishing the foundations of its development and advancement. Emirati women have clearly proven their merit in various sectors, especially in local and international voluntary and humanitarian work, until they have become an example to be followed, she added.
She noted the importance given by the wise leadership to empowering women and strengthening their stature in all fields, especially humanitarian and voluntary. She stressed the accomplishments of Emirati women since the establishment of the union, thanks to the course of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
She added that this was strengthened by the wise vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, out of their belief in the importance of women’s role in supporting the advancement of the country.
She said that Emirati women are walking in the footsteps of the late Sheikh Zayed, who had the main role in supporting women, involving them in all the sectors, and making them partners beside men in the process of building the nation under his ambitious vision for the country and its people.
She added that Sheikha Fatima has adopted unprecedented initiatives to empower Emirati women in the field of voluntary work and humanitarian giving to alleviate the suffering of the poor and needy under a voluntary framework.
She pointed out that in the future we will witness intensifying of humanitarian missions to enable voluntary medical staff to serve the needy segments by increasing the number of medical convoys and voluntary camps, in addition to sending a mobile hospital with seven field medical units and a mobile unit to Morocco, Lebanon and Pakistan.
In conclusion, she said that Sheikha Fatima has been focussing on caring for women and children locally and internationally, supporting them in all fields, especially health, and providing them with comprehensive healthcare.
