The Sawab Center, a joint UAE-US digital communications hub to combat violent extremist ideologies online and promote positive alternatives, announced the launch of a new campaign on its social media platforms. Under the hashtag of #DiversityIsStronger, the two-day campaign will run from August 20 - 21 in Arabic, English and French on Sawab’s Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube platforms.
Coinciding with the observance of Eid Al Adha from August 21-23, the #DiversityIsStronger campaign will address the holiday’s focus on diversity and inclusiveness—believers around the world unite in shared celebration, regardless of one’s nationality, ethnic group, tribe, sect or social status. The campaign will feature the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, which in itself provides a striking example of diversity, when Muslims gather together—regardless of their different backgrounds—for a common journey. #DiversityIsStronger will also underscore the strength and prosperity of pluralistic communities throughout the world, and the important role of individuals in breaking down barriers to help achieve mutual understanding and social cohesion. Lastly, the campaign will also highlight the many large communal celebrations, family gatherings, and, most importantly, sharing of the values of mercy and compassion with one’s community and neighbors.
#DiversityIsStronger is the Sawab Center’s twenty-ninth social media campaign countering violent extremism and presenting positive alternatives to violent and divisive ideologies. Other Sawab campaigns have focused on terrorism’s devastation of families, communities, and ancient civilizations, as well as positive themes such as the merciful acts of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the important contributions of women in preventing and resisting extremism and in advancing their societies.
Since its launch in July 2015, the Sawab Center has encouraged governments, communities, and individual voices to engage proactively to counteract online extremism. Over this time, the Center has given voice to the millions of people around the world who oppose violent extremist ideologies, while supporting efforts to expose terrorist groups’ brutality and criminal nature.
