The 14th edition of the national programme, entitled "YEStoWork," which is being held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, and organised by the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training, ACTVET, began today in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman, and will end on 16th August.

The programme runs each summer and winter during school breaks and involves students between 15 and 21 years old, and ten partners in several different work locations across the UAE. Students participating in programme gain professional experience and specialized training in retail services and operations.

The programme aims to create a vocational future for Emirati youth of both genders and enable them to discover their talents and assist them to find future careers.

The ACTVET yesterday organised an academic guidance sessions for new students participating in the programme, while their practical studies and placements began today in leading private sector institutions.

In statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, Mubarak Saeed Al Shamsi, Director-General of the ACTVET, said that the programme will encourage the youth to work in the private sector by developing their skills and giving them the opportunity to discover new skills, through learning the specialisations included in the programme.

He added that the programme is part of the ACTVET’s strategy to implement the directives of the wise leadership to launch strategic programmes that will enable UAE citizens to learn the necessary skills to work in various professions and jobs, which are important to the community and required by the private sector, in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 and the country’s future post-oil economy.

Ali Mohammed Al Marzouqi, Chairman of Emirates Skills at ACTVET, said that the programme reflects the efforts of the country’s wise leadership to educate students and provide for their educational and practical requirements through enabling them to work during their summer vacations, which will enhance their education and qualify them to participate in the job market.

He pointed out that programmes will be carried out periodically, at an average of three times per year, in accordance with school vacations.
