Imperial College London Diabetes Centre Names Lawrence Patrick New CEO
(10 July 2018)

Imperial College London Diabetes Centre (ICLDC), a comprehensive, state-of-the-art outpatient facility for diabetes treatment, prevention, education and research, and part of Mubadala's network of healthcare providers, has announced the appointment of Lawrence Patrick as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Lawrence Patrick has joined from Johns Hopkins Medicine, where he led its Southeast Asia and Asia Pacific regions, serving as CEO of its Singapore facility and its Multi-Specialty Centre in Tokyo. With 20 years of experience in healthcare, his areas of expertise include continuous quality improvement, patient satisfaction initiatives, and facility planning and development.

Patrick was officially appointed in September 2017 to enable a smooth transition from the previous leadership team.

Speaking on the appointment, Abdulla Al Shamsi, Head of Mubadala Healthcare, said: "As we have initiated a deeper integration of service lines across our healthcare providers and physician practices, there is today a greater focus on quality than ever before. Through bringing on board world-class leaders with successful track records and in-depth expertise across the healthcare sector, we are confident we will continue to make a significant contribution to building a strong foundation of specialist healthcare in the UAE."

He added: "ICLDC saw tremendous growth in 2016 and again in 2017, and is poised for more growth and expansion over the next few years. The appointment of a new CEO cements the Centre's commitment to facilitating access to quality healthcare and meeting the needs of the population of Abu Dhabi and the wider UAE."

For his part, Patrick said: "It is indeed an honour to lead a prestigious medical facility with a growing reputation in the region, particularly at such an exciting stage in its growth trajectory. I enjoy collaborating with the team in consolidating ICLDC's status as a trailblazer in diabetes care in the region. The team and I will continue to offer our patients the support and treatment they need, and work towards reducing the prevalence of diabetes through enhancing the Centre's research, education and patient care competencies."

Having developed a specific approach to diabetes management, based on the unique needs of Abu Dhabi, the UAE and the wider region, ICLDC offers the highest level of specialised patient care from first diagnosis to the treatment of diabetes and associated complications. The Centre proactively raises awareness about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle in combatting and managing diabetes among the community.
