The Khalifa Award for Education pavilion at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, ADIBF, hosted an artificial intelligence, AI, seminar, in the presence of Amal Al Afifi, Secretary-General of the Khalifa Education Award, and several officials from the country’s education sector.
Dr. Abdullatif Al Shamsi, Director of the Higher Colleges of Technology, HCT, highlighted the idea of converting university libraries and books, as well as academic curriculum and exams, to smart interactive systems through AI, based on the concept of extensive data that will support the decision-making process in the digital world. Education, therefore, faces many challenges, which require the work of leading professors from around the world, and are caused by the gap between decision-makers and scholars, the digital readiness of academic authorities, and their unwillingness to accept and manage change, he added.
He stressed that the HCT launched its strategy for 2017 to focus on training Emirati nationals and comply with the Fourth Industrial Revolution while promoting its mission and role in supplying the labour market with qualified personnel.
The pavilion’s activities included a presentation on the "Ajyal" initiative of Sharjah’s family development centres, which won the "Education and Community Service Award" in the "Institutions Category."
Intissar Ismail Al Sayed and Nadia Al Kaabi, the winners of the "Education Award" in the "Innovative Teacher Category," presented a workshop about their experience in winning the award. The activities also included a technical learning workshop, titled, "Robot," for people of determination by the Dubai Centre for People of Determination Rehabilitation, which presented its experience in winning the award in the category of "Innovative Educational Projects and Programmes."
