The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Department of Culture and Tourism, have organized the Private Sector 2nd Meeting: Tourism Sector’s Challenges, at the Abu Dhabi Chamber building in Abu Dhabi.
Mr. Abdullah Ghurair al-Qubaisi, Deputy Director General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, said at the beginning of the meeting that the 2nd private sector meeting comes to discuss the challenges that faces the tourism sector, pointing out that the meeting is a discussion panel to exchange ideas and to find the proper means to confront the challenges.
“Within its strategy, the Abu Dhabi Chamber is aware to increase direct contact between officials and private companies with the purpose of get acquainted with the suggestions and challenges these companies face and to propose proper solutions to overcome such challenges,” Al-Qubaisi said. He added that “the private sector in Abu Dhabi enjoys the support by our wise leadership in order to be a real and active partner to the public sector in realizing the policy of economic diversification and building a sustainable economy built on knowledge according to the economic vision of the emirate.”
For his part, Mr. Sultan Al Mutawa Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of the Tourism Sector at the Department of Culture and Tourism, said that the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi is making continuous increase in its growth rate and is expected to record an increase of 10% in the number of visitors and tourists in 2018 to register around 5.5 million visitors in Abu Dhabi.
Al-Dhaheri stated that the Department of Culture and Tourism, through its participation in Abu Dhabi Business Forum which was held recently in the capital, is aware of the necessity to interact with the challenges which the private sector that operates in the tourism sector faces in Abu Dhabi.
He added that the companies which operate in the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi is a strategic partner in growth which Abu Dhabi is witnessing in the number of visitors and tourists alongside the tourism boom in the emirate.
Ali Fahad Al Nuaimi, Director of Trade Relations at the Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi, said: “Through this meeting we emphasize today on our determination to keep on working together to enhance the strategic partnership between the public and private sectors. Focusing on the tourism sector reflects the awareness of the Department of Economic Development and the Department of Culture and Tourism to provide the proper and attractive business environment to the private sector by overcoming all the challenges and obstacles that stand in the face of investors and businessmen in Abu Dhabi.
Mohammed Al-Dhaheri, Director of Corporate Excellence Department of Culture and Tourism, delivered a presentation on Abu Dhabi Vision on the tourism sector considering the emirate has become a tourism destination regionally and internationally.
He said that Abu Dhabi was able to attract 4.8 million visitors in 2017, pointing out that these visitors are mainly from the GCC, Asia and Europe, and that Abu Dhabi was able to best other tourism destination in attracting visitors and achieving high hotel occupancy.
