Abu Dhabi To Host 10,000 Participants At IDF 2017 Congress
(29 November 2017)

Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Abu Dhabi will host the International Diabetes Federation, IDF, 2017 Congress.

The event will take place from 4th to 8th December with an anticipated 10,000 participants at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, ADNEC, the capital’s premier event venue. It will include more than 300 speakers both world-renowned and newcomers, 230 national diabetes associations from 170 countries and high-level participation from the Department of Health in Abu Dhabi and other health organisations.

Announced in 2016, Abu Dhabi won the bid to host the World Diabetes Congress by its organiser, the Brussels-based International Diabetes Federation, IDF, following stiff competition from leading venues and well-known cities around the world to host the Congress.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammad Al Hamed, Chairman of the Department of Health, Abu Dhabi, said, "Diabetes management and prevention is a top priority on our healthcare agenda. Despite several preventive methods, we continue to see an increase in the number of people with diabetes. This requires more education and increased awareness of the disease and ways of prevention in the UAE and the Arab world.

"As part of our commitment to promote a healthy community in Abu Dhabi, this congress will help raise awareness of diabetes and develop much-needed dialogue. The International Diabetes Federation will draw on expertise from international best practice when it comes to treatment and overall disease management."

The broad nature of the congress is invaluable for all professionals in the field of diabetes, from clinicians and physicians to educators, public health specialist, epidemiologists, as well as policymakers and advocates. With over 160 hours of sessions, 300 top-level speakers, 1,000 posters and an estimated 21 CME credits, the conference aims to provide the delegates with an invaluable learning experience through varied and innovative sessions.

"The biennial International Diabetes Federation Congress is a truly international meeting that provides a perfect platform for interaction and learning. The factors, which decided our appointment to host this prestigious event, included the UAE capital being seen as a leading destination in the meeting and conference world, along with the city’s safety and affordability features which helped to cement the Federation’s decision," said Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi.
