Pyramedia has been awarded the contract to produce the hit reality TV show Prince of Poets for the third season in a row, which starts today as filming for the auditions phase of the competition begin and are due to last until Thursday. A specialized crew of over 150 set designers, lighting technicians, producers, directors and camerapersons have been preparing over the past few months for the live television competition set to go on air on June 11 on Abu Dhabi TV.
The auditions will film over 300 poets competing, in front of a celebrity panel of judges for the competition and have been whittled down from thousands of entrants that sent in their poetry for judging over the past few months.
Pyramedia will go into post-production phase after the three-day shoot to turn the auditions into three one-hour documentary episodes due to air as a lead up to the live competition.
The auditions traditionally filmed from a studio in Abu Dhabi for the past two seasons will now be filmed for the first time from the Folklore Theatre, as Pyramedia uses its speciality in turning theatres into sets fit for TV productions.’The Prince of Poets’ live show is filmed from Al Raha Beach theatre for the ten week competition, as well as its ’mother’ show, ’The Millions Poet’, which Pyramedia have also produced for the past three seasons, where the theatre, initially intended for Broadway style productions, was transformed into a production set with a live audience capacity of 2000 people.
The auditions will be shot this season using 10 HD cameras and a state-of-the-art HD OB van making the show one of the largest theatre-to-TV productions in the Middle East Region.’ Once again a fly-on-the-wall element of the show will be shot through the ’Diary room’ that has been created to give audiences a closer and more personal look at the competitors as they pour their hearts out to the camera in this private room.
The Prince of Poets is a classical Arabic poetry TV competition on Abu Dhabi TV that was created in an effort to encourage Arab youth to excel in an artistic area that extends back to the Pre-Islamic era. The show, a knockout live TV competition sees 35 aspiring poets chosen by the celebrity panel of judges during the audition phase, compete on stage in front of a 2000 strong live theatre audience and millions of viewers at home.’Poets are judged by a mixture of the panel, live theatre audience voting and SMS voting.’ The winner of the competition at the end of the ten weeks receives the prestige title of ’The Prince of Poets’ and a cash prize of 1 Million Dirhams.
Prince of Poets is produced by Pyramedia for the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage and is held under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE’s Armed Forces.
