Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort Partners With Taiz Zoo
(4 May 2009)

The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort today announced the signing of a partnership agreement with the Taiz Zoo in the Republic of Yemen. The agreement was signed in Abu Dhabi by H.E. Majid Al Mansouri, Managing Director of Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort and Mr. Abdul Hakim Mohamed Ahmed Seif, General Executive Manager Taiz Zoo. The agreement further reinforces Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort’s commitment to partnering with conservation organizations both locally and internationally.

The agreement includes an animal and plant exchange program. As part of a major expansion, Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort is developing a world desert habitat featuring the animals and plants of the Arabian Peninsula. Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort will work with Taiz Zoo to develop conservation strategies aimed at preserving animals and plants that are inherent in the natural habitats of the UAE and Yemen.

The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort will offer Taiz Zoo ongoing training in plant and animal care, and also assistance in the design of horticulture and animal facilities. A key component of the agreement is the development of various education programs for the Taiz Zoo.

Commenting on the partnership, Majid Al Mansouri, Managing Director of Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort said: “We are pleased to announce that our partnership with Taiz Zoo has now been finalized, and we very much look forward to working together to achieve our objectives in terms of research and conservation of indigenous wildlife and plant species.”

“The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort is establishing a number of strategic partnerships with leading conservation agencies, including the San Diego Zoo and the Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden in Miami. All of this is part of our ongoing strategy aimed at educating people on the importance of living in harmony with nature and wildlife, and to promote the protection, preservation, conservation and eco-friendly living of all indigenous wildlife and their habitats.”

“Together with the Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort, the Taiz Zoo can help protect endangered species across the Arabian Peninsula and help people learn about the plants and animals important to our common heritage”, said Abdul Hakim Mohamed Ahmed Seif, General Executive Manager Taiz Zoo.

The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort and the Taiz Zoo also expressed interest in collaborating towards the establishment of a Middle Eastern Zoo Association, in partnership with the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). The establishment of a regional chapter of WAZA will ensure wildlife parks across the region set standards for animal welfare and work toward conservation and management of wildlife habitats in the Middle East.
