A panel discussion held at Manarat Al Saadiyat yesterday highlighted Anish Kapoor’s unique body of work with a focus on his monumental sculptural installations such as My Red Homeland (2003) currently being exhibited as part of The Creative Act: Performance, Process, Presence, the second major exhibition of artworks from the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi collection. Anish Kapoor: The Creative Act, A Panel Discussion was presented by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) in partnership with the British Council as part of the UK/UAE 2017 programme of events and explored the process of transformation visible in the artist’s most renowned works.
Moderated by Maisa Al Qassimi, Programmes Manager, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, the discussion featured Adrian Locke, Senior Curator, Royal Academy of Arts, London and focused on the solo exhibition of artworks by Anish Kapoor at the Royal Academy held in 2009. Since the early 1980s, Anish Kapoor has investigated the notions of scale, form, colour, and materiality. As one of the most influential and celebrated contemporary artists, Kapoor redefines the limits of sculpture, challenging our understanding of the physical world and bringing to the fore the process of transformation. Anish Kapoor was elected Royal Academician in 1999.
