The Abu Dhabi General Services Company, Musanada, has announced that construction works have begun on the Madinat Zayed – Al Marfa road project, falling under the objectives of the Abu Dhabi Plan seeking to provide an effective transport system serving the community and economy. Part of Musanada’s efforts to realise the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and implement the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the project is one of many others included in the 2016-2021 strategic plan of the Department of Transport in the western region, aiming to develop world-class infrastructure and construct road and transport networks planned to serve the Emirate’s economy and community.
The new 50Km motorway linking Madinat Zayed to Al Marfa will facilitate movement of people and goods between the two cities as well as serve the main road network in the western region of Abu Dhabi Emirate, interconnecting the communities of the region.
"Musanada is keen to keep up with the comprehensive development process witnessed by the western region, thanks to the foresight of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the follow up of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the western region," said Hamad Al Murar, Musanada’s Acting CEO.
"The project involves construction of a 2-lane dual carriageway, road lighting, an upper interchange, 3 under-crossings for U-turns, turnaround and crossing of wild animals, and construction of 4 ducts and 3 utility protection bridges. Works are planned to be completed during Q1 of 2019 according to the plan developed by Musanada in line with highest international standards and specifications and as scheduled," added Al Murar.
Faisal Ahmed Al Suwaidi, General Director of Main Roads at the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, highlighted the importance of the motorway, a shortcut linking Madinat Zayed to Al Marfa and reducing the usual journey time. It also forms an important part of the strategic road network that interconnects cities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and provides advanced road services in the western region, while maintaining international engineering standards and specifications and observing road safety and security.
The AED653 million project is part of efforts aimed to develop infrastructure projects to help enhance economic and social movement in the western region, meeting the services and utility needs of residents while maintaining the highest safety and security standards, providing integrated, eco-friendly service transport solutions and technologies.
Confirming its commitment to the best green and sustainability standards by having in place best practices to preserve natural resources and protect the environment, Musanada said that the project will include LED lighting to reduce energy consumption by at least 60 percent. Under-crossings will also be constructed to avoid accidents involving the running over of local wildlife, in addition to the construction of a fence to protect the road from loose sand, significantly reducing the number of accidents and ensuring traffic safety.
