Awqaf, the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments, is delighted to announce its entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the largest donation box in the world. It was designed to resemble a larger-scaled replica of the donation box the General Authority uses to collect donations, built according to the exacting standards of the Guinness World Record committee.
“Awqaf created the idea in cooperation with our strategic partners to provide an unforgettable and innovative way of collecting contributions and funds from donors, businessmen, and different institutions and agencies in support of the good deeds performed during the month of Ramadan.” said Dr. Muhammad Matar Al Kaabi, Head of General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments.
The moneybox has been designed to reflect the traditional style of the United Arab Emirates, occupying a total of 156 square metres (511 square feet). It was first revealed in Yas Mall’s Town Square on Saturday during the first week of Ramadan at an event hosted by Aldar Properties P.J.S.C in partnership with the General Authority for Islamic Affairs.
The box will be on show at Yas Mall from Saturday 20 June to Monday 6 July in the Town Square, supported by a host of cultural and religious activities for children and families to enjoy. Awqaf will also manage an information centre in Town Square, where guests can receive more details about mosques, religious service teaching centers and the Official Fatwa Center as well as Awaqf’s community facing activities.
Muhammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, CEO of Aldar Properties, said: "We are very pleased to host the world’s largest money box at Yas Mall, especially since this is the first year the mall is open for Ramadan. This celebration reflects the committed relationship between Aldar and the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments representatives. It also cements Yas Mall’s position as one of the most prominent destinations in Abu Dhabi. We are extremely thankful and grateful to the honorable authority for choosing Yas Mall to host this event and for giving us the opportunity to participate. Aldar will always be committed to providing support for Awqaf’s great works in our community."
Awqaf is also organizing a charitable Ramadan market at Yas Mall, offering local products and gifts throughout the holy month.
