During Earth Hour on March 19th, Yas Mall will join in the global initiative by dimming lights in various areas around the mall from 8:30-9:30 pm. The mall will also host a family activation to shed light on the importance of conserving energy. Visitors will enjoy a ‘glow-in-the-dark’ photo booth in which they can capture memorable of images as they mark Earth Hour. In partnership with Abu Dhabi’s Petroleum Institute Research Center and University (PI), Yas Mall will also host students in a special project in which they showcase a variety of energy conservation initiatives.
Since opening, the mall has taken several steps towards enhancing its sustainability efforts as it is largest retail development to achieve a 2-pearl Estidama rating in the UAE, including diverting more than 1.2 million kilograms of waste. In 2016, the mall also became the first shopping centre in the region to host the first ever electric car charging station, the BMW iWallbox Pro, to provide customers with a supply of green power through self-sufficient energy.
Yas Mall has also partnered with Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS)-WWF as one of the renowned organizations Pearl Members, to host the Green Gulf Race at Yas Mall. The event, which was an interactive treasure hunt around the mall, was hosted to raise awareness amongst corporations in Abu Dhabi about sustainability and the importance of marine conservation.
