As part of its efforts to ease the burden on the underprivileged, especially children and the elderly, in Africa, the Zayed Giving Initiative (ZGI) has begun phase three of its humanitarian aid and medical assistance programme.
The programme is implemented in partnership with the Saudi German Hospital, the Dar Al Ber Society, and the Arab Association for Humanitarian Work, under the supervision of a UAE centre for volunteering.
The launch of the third phase is a continuation of the humanitarian efforts carried out in the region over the past years including in Morocco, Sudan and Somalia and Eritrea, Tanzania, and Egypt, said Dr. Reem Osman, Humanitarian Ambassador for ZGI.
The initiative has helped more than three million children and elderly people in Africa through more than 8,000 heart surgeries in mobile hospitals and clinics equipped with the latest medical technologies under the supervision of senior doctors and surgeons.
The third phase will include the provision of diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventive services to patients through mobile clinics and field hospitals set-up in Egypt, Sudan, Morocco and Mauritania in partnership with local health and volunteer organisations, said Emirati heart surgeon Dr. Adel Al Shamri, who is also the Chief Executive of ZGI.
