A spectacularly interactive month-long installation, The District, geared towards teenagers and young adults aged between 14 - 22, is set to open its doors this weekend at Abu Dhabi’s du Forum, bringing to the capital a diverse array of captivating urban spaces designed to create the ultimate hangout for the youth this summer.

Organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority in association with an award-winning agency  Extracake, as part of this year’s edition of Abu Dhabi Summer Season, The District is a fun and exciting concept, offering activities focussed on innovation, entertainment, technology, fashion, digital media, health and nutrition science, sustainability and much more.  

Characterised by five distinctive zones: The Alley, The Street, The Block, The Yard and The Park, The District is designed to resemble a micro-city, promising visitors an ongoing pool of engaging activities, educational workshops as well as special events spread across different ‘neighbourhoods’.

The Alley

From robotics, video games, scientific displays, model kits and more, The Alley is set to be a haven for tech enthusiasts. From innovation science installations ‘Intelligent Optimism with Scifest’, and ‘Intelligent Robotics with Makers Builders’, to delving into the world of virtual reality with ‘Enterprise Virtual Reality by Liminal’ and ‘Planetary Dreams by Lucid Trips’, The Alley is sure to captivate the young tech-inspired minds with a series of workshops incorporating innovation, science, technology and entertainment gaming.

The Street

Music is the name of the game in The Street, as this zone comes to life with a series of musical performances, improv comedy and poetry sets, local bands and DJs taking to the stage for some charged musical performances. If you are a fan of entertainment film, tribal drums, acoustic music, the sounds of Bollywood, musical engineering, or just have a love for dance, The Street is where you will need to hang out this summer!

The Block

Digital creativity and art collide on The Block, where visitors can delve into the world of fashion, digital design, animation and innovation, painting and print media, artistic up-cycling and more. Using a wide range of material to create artistic presentations, The Block offers a vast array of artistically inspired installations including ‘Style By Me with Ayaso Boutique’, ‘Canvas Creations By Sajaya Young Ladies’, Soul’s ‘Art with a Twist’, ‘The Fashion World with Creative Space Beirut’ and more. For those inspired by the world of visual arts and creative design, The Block will showcase compelling activities that bring out the artist in everyone.

The Yard

A full culinary excursion awaits visitors to this zone, as tastebuds are set alight in The Yard. The UAE’s finest local entrepreneurs and foodies put together mouthwatering delicacies and treats to arouse the appetites of the District’s wanderers. The Brictorian Oven is set to be a hit for visitors with big appetites, offering an array of finger foods to be enjoyed by all.

The Park

Combining graffiti, collaborative art, digital media and entertainment gaming, The Park brings to life creations that connect artists to their audiences, as artists freestyle creative life-size masterpieces before curious eyes in ‘Graffiti & Street Art by Secret Walls’, ‘Gifme by Tintin Hedberg’ and ‘Glass by Chochoma Studios’ to name a few. This zone draws crowds in with mesmerising live displays of artistic and photographic techniques that create finished masterpieces found in some of the UAE’s most promising art galleries.

Featuring an outstanding line up of celebrities and special guests stopping by for added excitement and entertainment, The District promises an extravaganza for curious minds, seeking an opportunity to dabble in inspired artistic creativity, explore the latest in innovative gadgets, games and interactive demos or just a sensory stimulation overload. From sights, sounds, tastes and opportunities to use your hands in creating your own masterpiece, The District is the ‘must-visit’ destination for teenagers this summer.

Tickets are available via www.thedistrict.me/tickets/, Virgin Megastore or Ticketmaster and are priced at 100 AED for a Weekday Pass, 175 AED for a Weekend Pass and 1,000AED for a Season Pass.
