The District, a flagship event in this year’s Abu Dhabi Summer Season by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) gains support from the local and international community’s trailblazers and young adults who wish to take part in making it the coolest hangout this summer. The District is open from August 18th to September 17th at the du Forum, Yas Island for the youth.

The District is designed as a micro-city where young people can socialize, play, create, explore, find inspiration, make connections or even disconnect if that’s what they’re in the mood for. “Since announcing The District and working more closely with the local community, we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of volunteers, young artists and innovators, and local movers and shakers who came forward to impart their talents and skills to the citizens. This is the spirit of The District we aim to develop,” says Predrag PJ Toncev, General Manager of Extracake, organizers of The District.

Some of the activities that are lined up include:

Improv workshops or Improvisational Theatre, a form of theater where most or all of what is performed is created at the moment it is performed, conducted by Dubomedy, UAE’s local comedy pioneers;
“Design by Me” with Ayaso Boutique that gives citizens hands-on experience in designing their own kimono;
Poetry Writing and Reading by Nabiha Nahyan, an 18-year old Emirati local artist who has a passion to express the hidden voice of many in the society;
Photography & Videography by Nikon School that covers Fundamentals of Photography, Lighting and Portraiture and introduction to DLSR Videography and Film Making;
Yoga for all levels by Aisha Yogini designed to get citizens moving, opening up and letting go of tension, all while having a great time.

The regional and international guests have also grown and now include:

Stars of Fate that will lead a “Freestyle Acrobatics” workshop that incorporates different aspects of popular street activities such as Free Running and Urban Gymnastics;
Lucid Trips that has prepared “Planetary Dreams” taking the citizens to a planetary dream world through virtual reality;
A Maze with “Rectangle Discipline”, a game where a player’s image is fed back to the screen, surrounded by a rectangle that is constantly moving and resizing and to win, player needs to stay within the rectangle;
Codex Bash that will bring Code Breakers, an interactive workshop where citizens use on-screen clues to uncover a sequence of custom-designed wireless buttons and run around to bash the buttons in the right order;
Auug who will introduce Motion Music, which converts a phone’s motion sensor data into signals for shaping sound that will enable the citizens to play and create music with this powerful and innovative musical tool.

The District is proud to welcome guests from over 20 countries who will be featuring their own brand of edutainment to the citizens.
