City Football Schools players were joined by goalkeeping star Thomas Sorensen for a special coaching session at Zayed Sports City in Abu Dhabi.
The Danish goalkeeper, who now plays for Melbourne City Football Club in Australia, which is part of the City Football Group, put the young boys and girls through their paces on the pitch and then followed it with a Q&A session on what life is like as professional player.
Speaking after the coaching session, Thomas Sorensen said: “It has been a great honour to be a part of the coaching session at City Football Schools in Abu Dhabi. The students have been a delight to work with and are very talented. The coaching set-up is very impressive and, when I was starting out as a young player, I would have loved to have had the opportunities that these young players are getting now.
“The skills and knowledge that they are learning will be of huge value as they grow older, not only out on the football pitch but how they behave off it.”
Sorensen, who has more than 100 caps for his country, spent the day at City Football Schools which has three locations in the UAE capital - Zayed Sports City, New York University Abu Dhabi and the Emirates Palace.
The team of full-time coaches, who all have worked at Manchester City Football Club at the Etihad Campus in Manchester, teach all abilities from the ages of 3 to 16.
City Football School’s Head Coach, Simon Hewitt, said: “It is fantastic to have such an incredibly experienced goalkeeper coaching the players at City Football School. Thomas has showed them what it takes to get to the top.”
“Our aim is to develop skills, character and teamwork and having stars like Thomas with us for the day truly helps that.”
City Football Group manages Melbourne City Football Club as well as Manchester City, New York City Football Club and Yokohama F-Marinos.
