Umm Al Emarat Park has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag following a successful year since reopening on March 19, 2015. The award serves as an international benchmark for green spaces and parks and is a strong indication of the park’s success in positioning itself as a leading community destination with growing popularity.
International Green Flag Award Scheme manager, Paul Todd said: “We are delighted to be celebrating a winning park in Abu Dhabi for the scheme’s 20th anniversary. It is testament to the efforts of the staff, who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. The judges and I would like to thank the staff and community for their hospitality during our judging visit.”
The Green Flag Award scheme sets the best standards for parks and green spaces across the world and distinguishes the space as a prime destination for residents and tourists. Umm Al Emarat Park met an extensive criteria, including sustainability, community involvement, cleanliness, safety, conservation and heritage. The Park achieved a score of 80+ which is an extremely high score on the Green Flag’s scoring matrix.

During its inaugural year, the park, formerly known as Mushrif Central Park, hosted 35 events which have attracted more than 800,000 visitors. On March 28, 2016, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces renamed the park Umm Al Emarat Park, in honour of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF) and President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood in recognition of her national and social role in empowering Emirati women and building a strong community.
