In efforts to promote reading in the UAE as part of the Emirati heritage, Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, announced the launch of Brzat Qeraa’a Initiative at Abu Dhabi International Airport on April 26 in partnership with Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi), as part of their joint and ongoing efforts to promote the Year of Reading 2016.

With 2016 being the Year of reading, Brzat Qeraa’a is launched as a promising initiative made to provide the public with books to read during their waiting times. As part of the initiative’s efforts, ZOWD is placing 20 book stations at the Airport’s most active gates, for passers-by to conveniently pick up a book to read while they wait. This launch introduces a series of deployments to be made in various other sectors in Abu Dhabi throughout the Year of reading in 2016.

Founded by H. H. Sheikh Alyazia bint Sultan Al Nahyan in 2012, ZOWD celebrates Emirati Heritage through reading practices, and aims to cultivate national curiosity to create a reader’s society that shares reading to further the Emirati heritage and its rich culture while remembering the traditions that make the UAE what it is. With the continued support of various sectors and with this year being the Year of Reading, ZOWD hopes to encourage the UAE public and country visitors to help celebrate our diverse cultures through reading.

H. H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan - Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian & Scientific Foundation, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between ZOWD Cultural Establishment, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority with Abu Dhabi International Airport, to fulfill the initiative’s mission. He further praised the governmental bodies that support community-based services in the Emirate, and the overall educational institutions in the Emirate that add to the efforts made by H. H. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Scientific Foundation that continuously seek to provide services in cooperation with such institutions in the Emirate, and with the direction of the Supreme President of the Foundation of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan - Advisor to His Highness the Head of State, thanking Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority for their prominent role in the success of the initiative, and extending an appreciation to Abu Dhabi International Airport for placing the initiative’s book stations at the most active gates allowing access to the largest number of visitors to the capital.

Brzat Qeraa’a is brought together by ZOWD and the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA) partners with ZOWD in collaboration with Abu Dhabi International Airport (ADIA) in joining their running initiative, “Read to Lead,” for the year of reading 2016.

Commenting on the launch of this initiative, H.E. Ali Majed Al Mansoori, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “Abu Dhabi Airports is proud that Abu Dhabi International Airport has been chosen as the launch platform for the “Barzet Qera’a” initiative by Sheikha Al Yaziya bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President of Zood Cultural Foundation.  Abu Dhabi Airports strives to support initiatives and events that has a positive and direct effect  on our community as part of our commitment to social responsibility. In addition, such projects elevate the passenger experience at Abu Dhabi International Airport, which remains our top priority as the main gateway to the UAE.”

In support of the“Year of Reading” launched by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Airports opened the first library at Abu Dhabi International Airport, in the link between Terminals 1 and 3, as a proactive initiative within the airports’ community in the region.

Abdulla Majed Al Ali, Director of Library Management, TCA Abu Dhabi, said: “Al Barza Reading Project is a significant addition to raise our community’s awareness about the ‘Year of Reading 2016’ initiative. It also comes in line with TCA Abu Dhabi’s vision to support national efforts in this regard by establishing a strategy to widen the nation's cultural and cognitive horizons. The project will provide travellers via Abu Dhabi Airports with mini libraries and the chance to read and discover new cultures while waiting. We would like to thank Abu Dhabi Airports for their cooperation in providing our nation with a reading platform to make reading a sustainable healthy habit”.
