The French Ambassador to UAE, HE Michel Miraillet laid the foundation stone on the development site of the "Lycée Theodore Monod" in the presence of His Excellency Nasser Bin Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Board of the National Bank of Abu Dhabi Management and Etihad Rail Corporation. Also present were Mr. Sufian Hassan Al Marzooqi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), HE Ali Al-Hajj Abdullah Al Mehairbi, Board Member of the Tourism Development & Investment Company, and Representatives Members of Abu Dhabi Educational Council, and the Board of Directors of "the Lebanese French Association for Education and Culture" (AFLEC). The development of this new, global educational edifice is a response on the part of TDIC to the wishes of the French community and those interested in French culture. Saadiyat was chosen because of what it offers from a cultural point of view, the fact that it has already embraced global institutions – most notably the "Louvre Abu Dhabi" museum – as well as its breathtaking location near luxury residential hotel complexes and innovate recreational facilities. Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Sufian Hassan Al Marzooqi said: “We are pleased to see the laying of the foundation stone of the French Lycée Théodore Monod. We are very confident that the new school will complement the existing educational opportunities on Saadiyat while meeting the demand for additional institutions to provide a well-rounded experience for pupils. This will benefit not only the residents of Saadiyat but also the wider Abu Dhabi community.” Lycée Théodore Monod, which is considered the second French school in Abu Dhabi, will accommodate 2,150 students from nursery till high school and will occupy a vital place on Saadiyat island, on an area of around 33,000 square metres. It is worth mentioning that the French Lycée Théodore Monod was founded in September 2003 by the "French Lebanese Association for Education and Culture” in the Al Bateen area and with the approval of the French Ministry of Education. Having started as a small premise comprised of 60 pupils, the school has today become an important educational edifice which accommodates 1,352 students from kindergarten to middle school. The school teaches three languages and three cultures (Arabic, French and English) by using the latest techniques and technologies while also placing a strong emphasis on excellence in all areas. Due to the increased interest from residents in Abu Dhabi, the "Lebanese French Association for Education and Culture" has concluded several agreements to develop institutions with high quality educational facilities by appointing a management team of specialists, a large number of teachers, and experts from the French Ministry of Education. In addition, it will adopt an innovative educational curricula certified by the French Agency for education abroad. These institutions also contribute to building bridges of cooperation and communication between the United Arab Emirates and the French Republic.
